This summer, I was fortunate to be able to participate in an annual trail ride put on by VARHA, which is our local Riding for the Handicapped Center, located at Wagner Equine Therapeutic Center in Franklin PA.Their trail ride was held originating from Two Mile Run County Park in the campground that holds the observatory (I can't remember the name of the campground!) and ran over a Saturday and Sunday.
This was my very first opportunity to experience a local trail ride as I had just recently completed work on a used horse trailer which enabled me to be mobile with my horses.
We hauled our horses to the campground where we set up our tent (many of the riders had beautiful horse trailers with living quarters, but we were happy to actually CAMP with our hoses) and tied a gang line for the horses between two trees.
It was a fabulous experience, but what struck me the most in the whole experience was the absolute beauty of the land. Our family had been to Two Mile many many times over the years camping and swimming mostly. I knew the park had miles of bridle trails, but I was absolutely astounded when we reached the crest of a hill and steeped out of the woods onto an open trail.
The view from there included an overview of the lake and you could absolutely see for miles. Since the leaves had just started to change colors, you can imagine what a sight that was.
There is nothing that compares to the sight of the leaves changing when you live in Venango County.
I was truly thankful to be a part of this trail ride and experience Two Mile Park in a whole new way! I can't wait for next year to do it all over again!
