The city of Oil City, Pennsylvania is rich with history of many different traditions. The Polish community is one in particular that stands out in the small town. So it is not surprising that monuments have been erected to honor the polish heritage in the area.
Three new monuments have been placed in Polish Heritage Memorial Park on Spruce Street. The park is a dedication the the many of Polish descent that live in the area. Memorials were donated by community members Dr. Robert Pilewski and and Raymond Pilewski in memorial of their parents and Richard Serafin in memory of his parents and family.
This is a good example of community pride that is deeply rooted in tradition. I think this park in Oil City should serve as an example for other communties where tolerance of other groups is low or where the general public is ignorant of traditions and customs.
