The News Herald reported today that the UPMC Northwest officials are planing to demolish the old Franklin Hospital. They have apparently given up on finding a new order with a productive use for the property. The article fails to mention what efforts had been made. Possibly the best economic develoment plan for Venango County is to demolish it all and make a parking lot for New York City. An absurd idea? Well, why not? Tags: economic development • franklin • upmc • demolishion • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

What is your name?Lizzie What is your age or age range? 45 Where do you live? Oil City, PA What do you like about Venango County? Venango County is a beautiful place to live. I like that there are many things you can be involved in. What do you dislike about Venango County? The incumbent and past county commissioners. They are flipping retards who are only interested in furthering their own interests it seems. Now, I am not making a blanket statement about EVERY commissioner, but those of you who know what I am talking about will know who I am talking about. What is the most important thing to change in Venango County? I think the county government, the way taxes are developed, school boards and the unbelievable power they hold. Local government bodies such as Cranberry township who encourage tons of business growth and then don't want to deal with the watershed problems it creates leaving property owners to figure out how to deal with the mess the government creates. What do you think is missing from Venango County? A work program for people on welfare. I am sick of people being supported by a system while they do nothing worthwhile to earn it. What are your thoughts about life in Venango County? It would be nice if our county park (Two Mile Run Park) that all the residents could enjoy was open instead of being a pawn in a game played by the county commissioners and the people hired to manage the park. There have been many controversies surrounding the park, but the bottom line is while the children in the governing bodies play around, we have no park to enjoy this summer. No camping, no swimming, nothing. Haven't made enough money yet guys? Tags: two mile run park • school board • watershed problems • venango interview • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

Oil City Cheerleading is an excellent program to be involved with! My sister was on the Varsity squad for football and basketball and was also on the competetive sqaud. It is really kewl to go to the competitions and watch them make their moves and build their stunts. My sister says that cheerleading is very difficult. You don't realize how much strain it puts on your body with lifting and catching. She was a base for the stunt groups and had to backspot the flyers. Their job is as important as the one doing the amazing stunts because if the supports weren't there, the flyers would be injured terribly falling to the ground. I am very proud of the coaches, Beth Hicks, Mary Benson, Susie Fontanazza, Erin Lenze, Kim Eberle, and Suzanne Ames. They give their prized time and attention to the girls on the squads and make sure they have a great time, be safe, and do well! Great job girls and coaches! Are you looking for a great place to eat? Try Il Colosseo in Oil City, PAI found a great Italian restaurant, Il Colosseo at 227 Seneca Street in Oil City. Il Colosseo is family owned and the Italian food is all prepared by REAL Italians! Their prices are good and you get more food than you really need to eat. They also deliver, for those of you (like me) who don't either have time or just plain don't want to get out of your comfy office chair or recliner. I found out today that the restaurant is owned by a family from Italy that has many branches of the family in Pennsylvania and I think they said in New York as well. There are restaurants owned by different siblings of the same family in Oil City, Clarion, Titusville, Meadville, Allentown, Hazelton, New Bethlahem, Knox, and several in New York. I highly recommend this place to eat, whether for dinner or lunch. The atmosphere is true Italian and I think you will enjoy it. I used to love going to Leonardo's in Franklin, but since I work in Oil City, it was difficult to get there, eat and get back in time. This is a wonderful, comparable place to eat! For the past few years I have had the privilege to work on the program known as Venango-Hatchie. This program was started by Oakland United Methodist Church, which is located in Dempseytown, PA. The program focuses on helping those in need in the Venango County Area.Venango-Hatchie projects include many different jobs. Volunteers from the community help roof, paint, and repair homes for those of us in need. The program usually lasts one week during the summer, where all kinds of people come to help out. Venango-Hatchie is just one way that Oakland United Methodist reaches out to help the world, even if it is just a little bit at a time.
